Politics of the Desperate, Politics bereft of Morality
Putang-ina, gusto ko sanang ung posts ko dito wala pulitika -- i'll just leave Conrad, Raul and Randolf to expound on the current poltical malaise, but as Pete Lacaba once said -- the student movement of my salad days ensured that this will not be lost on us -- "it's impossible not to get involved, to remain a spectator forever."
Year 2026. The father watching a vintage simpson episode in a multi-dimentional technology was approached by his son. "Dad, what did u do when Gloria was trumpling human rights and torturing Philippine democracy." "I was in my job, trying to provide our family the basic needs." "But dad, what are material comforts if you are not free, when you are gagged even before speaking, jailed even before writing, or salvaged even before being tried in the court?" "Ah, but the entire population then is apathetic, maybe people power fatigue." "But does that justify your inaction. Thanks, we ragained the freedom last year, but i think the Philippines will struggle to heal the wounds this wrought for the next 20 years. Our neighbors have really left us behind, in fact majority of the can-afford fFilipinos can be traced to prostitution, our specialization now in trade -- freshly flesh trade."
1995. Oh the years of exuberance blended with a sense of drift. Call it youthful exuberancewith a touch of Gen X. This past generation, fuck, they always fell into nostalgic romanticism of teh FQS. They did not realize that it is different now -- the US Bases were gone, USSR disintegrated, UP now has more cars parked than the student population anfd faculty combined. WE have our own struggle, i tell myself. But why is it that i feel a strain of envy for not ever presenting the conditions to serve a loftier call. No alternatives. Even the left is in disarray, with
rejectionist reaffrming their doctine and reaffirmist rejecting the rejectionists. Ang gulo, idelogy is taking a backseat to materialism. Grunge is dead, backstreet boys hurray. Pwe.
