I sympathize

The column speaks for itself. There was no reason, but misguided passion. Yes, Raul Pangalanan, a one great lawyer in a country where lawyers and liars are often the same, has been targeted to silence. He has been receiving harrassment by the day. Being robbed of the deanship, now someone has attempted to break-in to his office. I read also that a one fathead has been argiung the abolition of UP Law Center for being too critical to its patron -- the government. I agree, in a world of patronage politics, UP Law Center has no place, irrelevant and a breeding ground for dissent. Raul Gonzalez has a point too that UP has no gratitude for the government, so it is also irrelevant as well. I think they should all endorse bahay ni kuya as must-see, to condition that the government is contemplating to up the tempo of its surveillance. Or require reading 1984 to every classroom, and every government employee. Enough of this sarcasm!
One way to determine the desperate-ness of a cause, or course of action, is when it begins to target intellectuals, to pre-empt open debates and flow of communications. The power of reasons will be suppresed by the power of goons, guns and gold. They will intimidate, they will destory credibilities, they will kill. But, yes, time and time again, when they succeed in silencing a dissenter, someone will take up the cudgel and carry on the struggle.
For those who lust afor power, and will do anything to cling to it, epoxy-style, Albert Camus is right-- power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely.
